Where D-Tools wins
D-Tools has been the business backbone of AV and low-voltage integration since 1998, and it earns that. Its strength is the unglamorous middle of a project: turning an opportunity into an accurate proposal from a very large catalog with dealer pricing, then carrying that same data — without re-entry — through purchasing, receiving, scheduling, installation, change orders, time tracking and the accounting close. Direct integrations with QuickBooks, NetSuite and Sage, mature Gantt scheduling, and reusable punch lists are the product of a quarter-century of iteration on exactly that workflow.
We do not match that today and this page will not claim to. If the thing costing you money is procurement, technician hours or invoicing, buy the tool that fixes that.
Where the difference shows
D-Tools documents a system. It does not compute one. There is no RF propagation, no pixels-on-target, no acoustic intelligibility, no occlusion, no 3D. Its camera coverage is a cone you angle by hand for the drawing; its cable lengths are measured against a scale you set by eye. Both are genuinely useful for producing a deliverable — neither tells you whether the design works before you install it. That is the gap this platform exists to fill.

The engineering half
A drawing says where. A model says whether.
Every discipline on the same building model computes rather than illustrates: Wi-Fi from wall materials and ITU-R propagation, cameras from lens geometry and DORI, conference rooms scored per seat, cable pulls checked against tension and distance limits, PoE and circuits sized to standard.

Frequently asked questions
Is SiteOps Command a replacement for D-Tools?
For the engineering half of the job, it goes considerably further. For the business half, no — and this page will not pretend otherwise. If your bottleneck is purchase orders, receiving, technician time tracking and pushing invoices into QuickBooks or NetSuite, D-Tools does that today and does it well. If your bottleneck is proving a design will work before you install it, that is a different problem and a different tool.
D-Tools draws cable runs too. What is different?
Wirepath measures the line you draw against a scale you set by hand — a real, useful documentation feature. SiteOps Command routes the run on the modelled plan, adds vertical rise, service loop and slack, checks it against the TIA-568 distance limit for the cable you chose, and can optimise the pathway with capstan pull-tension physics so a run that cannot physically be pulled is flagged before the truck rolls.
D-Tools has camera coverage shapes. Is that the same as DORI?
No, and the difference matters on a bid. The D-Tools shape is a cone you angle by hand for the drawing — it does not take lens focal length, sensor size, mounting height or target resolution. SiteOps Command projects the actual optics, scores pixels-on-target against DORI (IEC 62676-4) per zone, and casts shadows from walls, glass and warehouse racking. One documents an intent; the other tests whether the intent survives the building.
Can we run both?
Many teams should. The natural split is design and proof here, business execution there: engineer the site on the model, produce the BOM and the drawings, then carry the material list into whichever system already runs your purchasing and accounting. Nothing about this platform requires you to abandon a working back office.
